Frequently asked questions
Is CivicsPrep affiliated with USCIS or the government?
No. CivicsPrep is an independent study aid and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by USCIS or any government agency. It does not give legal or immigration advice. Always confirm official requirements at uscis.gov.
Do I need an account or internet connection?
No account is required, and the app works fully offline. The only time it goes online is the optional "Use my location" feature, which looks up your U.S. district. Your study profile and progress stay on your device.
Which languages does CivicsPrep support?
English, Spanish, Traditional Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Tagalog, Haitian Creole, and Arabic. The official test is given in English, but you can study with your language shown alongside it. Some newer-question translations are unofficial study aids and are clearly labeled.
The questions or answers are read aloud in the wrong voice. How do I change it?
In the app, go to Settings → Voice to pick a speaking voice. For the most natural voice, download a "Premium" or "Enhanced" English voice from your device's Settings → Accessibility → Read & Speak → Voices, then select it in CivicsPrep.
The audio doesn't play when my phone is on silent.
CivicsPrep is designed to play study audio even when the ring/silent switch is on. If you still hear nothing, check that your media volume is up and that an English voice is installed on your device.
My state, governor, or representative looks wrong.
Answers that depend on current officeholders can change over time and may be out of date. You can set or correct your state and representative in Settings. Always verify current officeholders before your interview — you can look up your representative at house.gov.
How do I reset my study plan or progress?
Open Settings and tap "Re-run eligibility questions" to rebuild your plan. To clear all data, delete and reinstall the app — everything CivicsPrep stores lives only on your device.
How do I delete my data?
Because CivicsPrep keeps everything on your device and has no account or server, simply deleting the app removes all of its data. See our Privacy Policy for details.
