CivicsPrep is a study aid that helps people prepare for the United States
naturalization (USCIS) civics test. We built it to be private by design. This
Privacy Policy explains, in plain language, what information the app handles,
where it stays, and the choices you have.
Short version: CivicsPrep has no account and no server of its own. Your
study profile, your settings, and your progress are stored only on your device.
We do not collect, sell, or share your personal information. The app makes one
optional network request — only when you tap "Use my location" — to a U.S.
government service to look up your congressional district.
The app stores the following on your device only (using Apple's on-device
storage, SwiftData and the system preferences store). This information is not
transmitted to us and we cannot see it:

This data never leaves your device through the app. If you delete the app, this

Location use is optional and happens only when you tap "Use my location"
in onboarding or in Settings. If you never tap it, the app never requests or uses
your location.
When you do tap it:
1. The app asks the operating system for your location (you control this
permission, and can change it any time in your device Settings).
2. Your approximate coordinates are used on your device to determine your
U.S. state (via Apple's geocoder).
3. To identify your U.S. congressional district (so we can suggest your U.S.
Representative), the app sends only your latitude and longitude to the
U.S. Census Bureau geocoding service
(geocoding.geo.census.gov), a public service operated by the U.S. federal
government. No other information — no name, no device identifier, no profile
data — is sent. We do not control the Census Bureau's service; their handling
of requests is governed by U.S. government privacy practices.
4. The app saves only the result (your state code and the suggested
representative's name) on your device. Your precise coordinates are not
stored.
You can skip location entirely and choose your state from a list, and type your
representative yourself.
The app can read questions and answers aloud using Apple's built-in,
on-device speech voices. Audio is generated on your device. No recordings are
made, and nothing you do with the voice feature is sent anywhere.
CivicsPrep is intended for adults preparing for naturalization. It is not
directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal
information from children.

Because your information stays on your device, it is protected by your device's
own security (passcode, Face ID/Touch ID, and Apple's data protection). We
recommend keeping your device locked and updated.
The only external service the app contacts is the U.S. Census Bureau
geocoding service described in Section 3, and only when you use the location
feature. Their use of any data they receive is subject to U.S. government
policies, not ours.
The app also links to uscis.gov and house.gov for official information.
When you tap those links, you leave the app and those sites' own privacy
practices apply.
The app is designed for preparing for the U.S. naturalization test and is
intended for use in the United States. Because your data stays on your device,
the app does not transfer your personal information across borders.
Depending on where you live (for example, under the California Consumer Privacy
Act or the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation), you may have rights to
access, correct, or delete personal information a company holds about you.
Because we do not collect or hold your personal information, we have nothing to
access, correct, or delete on our servers; you control your data directly on your
device. If you have questions, contact us at the email above.
If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date and post the new
version in the app and at our published policy link. Material changes will be
made clear.
